Films have the extraordinary power to transport us, spark emotions, and shift perspectives. They entertain, educate, and inspire – something we believe is deeply needed in the world of Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD). That’s why we’re thrilled to announce that we will be hosting a Film Festival at this year’s Canada FASD Conference!
We’re searching for short films from across Canada that showcase the lives and stories within the FASD community. We hope to encourage a wide range of film makers that promote the unique aspects of this disability and bring the community together.
Calling all filmmakers!
Are you a filmmaker with a story to tell? Whether you’re a first-time amateur filmmaker or an experienced director, we invite you to submit a short film (under 10 minutes). The film should take a positive, strengths-based approach to portraying FASD.
Stories can feature individuals with FASD, families, birth parents, or communities. In particular, we will prioritize submissions from creators with disabilities and those with living experiences.
Visit our Film Festival page to upload your film and get all the details on the application process. The submission deadline is August 30, 2025, at 4PM EST.
Why submit a film
This is your chance to showcase your work at the Canada FASD Conference in front of a large audience of people invested in FASD. A panel of experts will select the top five films for screening at the festival. First prize will receive a $500 cash award, the remaining four finalists will receive a $250 cash award. In addition, winners will be celebrated at the Canada FASD Conference Networking Event on October 22.
This is more than a film festival – it’s an opportunity to raise awareness, spark conversation, and inspire change through the power of cinema. So grab your cameras, unleash your creativity, and let your voice be heard on the big screen!
