Are you looking for a new challenge? Would you like to broaden your skills and experience and help shape the future of FASD in Canada at the same time? If so, this could be the opportunity for you.
We currently have two board member positions available. The Board of Directors helps CanFASD produce and maintain national, collaborative research for sharing with all Canadians, leading to prevention strategies and improved support services for people affected by FASD.
Our goal is to ensure that the governance of CanFASD is truly representative of our membership and the communities in which we live and work. We are looking for people who share CanFASD’s vision and mission, champion equality and diversity and want to help deliver our ambitious Strategic Priorities Plan. We welcome a broad spectrum of opinions from members with different backgrounds and experiences.
Being a board member involves:
- Developing board governance policies
- Setting the strategic direction
- Annual budgeting and financial management
- Supporting the advancement of FASD research in Canada
- Providing FASD leadership in Canada
Why should I become a board member?
- This is an opportunity to get directly involved in the work of CanFASD and support the FASD field.
- You will encourage research that is meaningful to families, governments, and people working in the field.
- It’s your opportunity to ensure CanFASD represents you and your community.
- It’s a chance to grow your professional networks and develop your leadership skills.
- It will enable you to bring your unique experiences and insights to the work of CanFASD.
- Support and training will be provided for all board members.
- You will be able to travel to different parts of Canada to attend meetings and conferences.
What are we looking for?
We are looking for two new board members from Northern Canada and British Columbia with experience in one of these areas:
- Experience in a medical field, FASD NGO, financial acumen, or communications
- FASD knowledge, expertise or lived experience
- Bilingual (asset)
- Indigenous or other cultural diversity (asset)
CanFASD strives to have a diverse volunteer Board that represents the communities with which we engage. We are looking for “difference makers”, individuals who, on a national level, want to engage in making a difference for those with FASD.
