We’re excited to announce that the 2020 Sterling Clarren Award winner is John Aspler from McGill University! John is completing his doctoral thesis analyzing the discourse surrounding FASD, alcohol, and pregnancy in major Canadian print news sources.
The Sterling Clarren FASD Research Award is given annually to a student or early career researcher who has made a significant contribution to the field of FASD. The award was named in honour of Dr. Sterling Clarren, CanFASD founding CEO and Scientific Director, to celebrate his contribution to, and leadership in, the field of FASD. This award recognizes research that integrates policy, practice, and evidence together to improve the lives of individuals with FASD, families, and communities.
The Sterling Clarren Award winner is usually invited to present their research at the International Research Conference on FASD held annually in Vancouver, British Columbia. As this year’s conference has been cancelled in response to the current global pandemic, John will instead be presenting his research through an online webinar held Friday April 24th, 2020 at 1:00 pm EST.
The webinar is entitled: “It’s Ignorant Stereotypes: Stakeholder Recommendations to Improve Canadian Discussions About FASD”. Space is limited so be sure to register now!
