The World Health Organization has designated the year 2020 as the Year of the Nurse and the Midwife

Nurses and midwives play an important role in educating women about the risks of substance use during pregnancy, raising awareness about FASD, supporting women to reduce or eliminate their alcohol consumption during pregnancy, and connecting families of individuals with FASD with helpful supports and resources.

FASD prevention has many layers, but a key strategy to prevention is having honest and open conversations with women and girls about their substance use habits. These non-judgemental conversations build trust between medical professionals and their clients. They are effective approaches to improving outcomes for pregnant women using substances and are an important step to reducing the stigma women and girls face surrounding substance use.

The Prevention Conversation is an online learning course designed to give front line health and social service providers the skills to engage clients in these supportive, non-judgemental conversations about alcohol use during pregnancy.

This year, in honour of the Year of the Nurse and the Midwife, we will be offering a 20% discount on our Prevention Conversation course for nurses and midwives. Just enter the code “Nurse2020” or “Midwife2020” at checkout!

We would like to take this opportunity to thank our nurses and midwives across Canada for their continued dedication to their profession.

Happy Year of the Nurse and the Midwife!
