Application deadline: August 31 2019

Award recipient will be notified by Sept 30, 2019

Claudette Bradshaw recently retired from the CanFASD Board of Directors and this award is to recognize her many years of service to the field of FASD, early education and homelessness. Honourable Bradshaw was a Member of Parliament for 10 years, served in many capacities and best known for her development of the Homelessness Secretariat and the resulting funding. Prior to her time in Parliament, she was a strong advocate for women in poverty and a passionate voice of the need to address issues of prenatal alcohol exposure. To honour her work and recognize those creating new and innovative solutions to these complex concerns, CanFASD has established this award in her name.

The recipient, individual, agency or organization will have developed an innovative intervention that has made a substantial contribution to the FASD field in one of CanFASD’s member provinces/territories. We are looking for innovations that focus on transitioning youth with FASD to adult supports; this may include housing, employment, parenting and/or substance use. This award is intended to help catalyze innovative practices across the sector and offer organizations the opportunity to share their visionary practices with the broader field. The effectiveness of the innovative intervention will be based on research and evidence.

The innovative program/project must involve a research or evaluation component in order to demonstrate the effectiveness in improving the lives of individuals with FASD, their families and communities. The following criteria will be taken into consideration in the review of all Innovation Award applications:

  • Potential to inspire future research and attract additional funding support
  • Innovation applicability to the field of FASD
  • Demonstrated commitment to improving the lives of those affected by FASD
  • Uniqueness of the innovation
  • Sustainability
  • Clarity of described innovation

The Adjudication Committee, chaired by the CanFASD Senior Research Lead, will evaluate each application.

Award recipients will receive a $2000 cash prize, a profile in the CanFASD blog and social media, and, if desired, assistance preparing a manuscript for publication. Award recipients may be asked to present their innovation at a CanFASD supported conference where travel and accommodation expenses would also be covered.
