Parenting with FASD
Parents play a big role in their children’s development. They help set their children up for healthy outcomes, supporting physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development. But parenting is often a demanding role. Children need constant care support, and nurturing, and as they develop and grow, their needs will change.
Many parents need support to build their caregiving skills, especially as the needs of their children change. Targeted interventions – like education, support, and strategies – can significantly improve parent skills and the wellbeing of their children. As we often hear, it takes a village! Identifying areas where parents with FASD require support through research and leveraging strengths through specific interventions is important to building parenting skills and creating that village of support.
