What’s happening in the FASD community this June

Summer is officially here, and June is packed with opportunities to learn, connect, and get involved in the FASD community. Whether you’re looking to expand your knowledge, engage with fellow professionals, celebrate innovation, or discover new resources, there’s something for everyone this month.

Attend an online event

CanFASD is hosting three exciting events this June!

Our Emerging Action in Research webinar series will showcase the eleven trainees who participated in our trainee program this year. These emerging researchers will share their work on a wide range of important topics, including:

Part 1 takes place this Friday at 1pm EST, with Part 2 following on June 19 at the same time. Register today to secure your spot and hear from the next generation of FASD researchers.

Looking for a more interactive opportunity to connect? Join us for What’s Next for CanFASD? A Member-Only Discussion on Thursday, June 18, at 1pm EST. Kathy Unsworth, CanFASD’s Executive Director, will share highlights from this year’s annual report, including key accomplishments and priorities for the future.

This session will also provide members with an opportunity to discuss their own work, share upcoming initiatives, and explore opportunities for collaboration across the network. This event is exclusive to CanFASD members, so be sure you’re signed up to receive the registration details.

Apply for an FASD award!

Do you know an individual, agency, or organization making a meaningful difference in the FASD field? Applications are now open for the 2026 Claudette Bradshaw FASD Innovation Award

This award recognizes innovative programs and projects that have made a substantial contribution to the FASD community. Eligible initiatives may focus on areas such as housing, employment, parenting, substance use, justice, child welfare, and more. Award recipients will receive a $2000 cash prize, a profile in the CanFASD blog and social media, and, if desired, assistance preparing a manuscript for publication.

Start preparing for FASD Month

September may still be a few months away, but now is the perfect time to start planning for FASD Awareness Month. Check out our FASD Month Event Guide for practical tips and ideas to help you plan a successful event. You can also reach out to your local elected officials and encourage them to officially proclaim September as FASD Month in your community.

Want to be part of the national conversation? Consider submitting a video or written response to be featured in CanFASD’s official FASD Month campaign. For even more ideas and resources, explore our FASD Month webpages.

Read about FASD

If expanding your FASD knowledge is on your summer reading list, we have several new resources to explore. Start with our Top FASD Articles of 2025, which highlights some of the most impactful research published last year. We’ve also recently updated our Common Message Guidelines – a valuable resource for anyone communicating about FASD, alcohol, and pregnancy.

We also released our second issue paper of the year, focused on siblings of individuals with FASD. This often-overlooked area deserves more attention, and the paper explores what we currently know about this under-researched topic and where future work is needed.

Looking for something suitable for readers of all ages? Check out What Is Your Superpower? by Hannah Denberg. The book continues to make an incredible impact -May 2026 was our biggest month ever for sales, with 358 books sold. Maybe with your support we can make June another record-breaking month!

Happy June!

June is shaping up to be an exciting month for the FASD community. From learning about emerging research and connecting with colleagues, to celebrating innovation and exploring new resources, there are countless ways to get involved.

Whatever your role in the FASD field, we hope you’ll take advantage of these opportunities to learn, collaborate, and help advance understanding and support for individuals with FASD and their families. We look forward to connecting with you throughout the month!
