This post is part of our new Feature Friday series called Spotlight on Service Providers. Over the next year, we will be featuring organizations and initiatives across Canada that provide much-needed supports and services for individuals with FASD and their families.
Who We Are
In Saskatchewan, a group of dedicated parents came together to form the FASD Network (the Network) in response to the lack of services available for families impacted by FASD. Now, over 20 years later, the Network is a community-based, provincial organization with offices in Saskatoon and Regina. The organization continues to work towards the mission laid out by its founders “to enhance the lives of individuals and families living with FASD”.
Our services
Through support, training, and events the Network provides services to individuals and families with FASD and provides education across the province. The Network’s current services include one-on-one support for caregivers and individuals with FASD. Our staff can assist with learning about FASD, developing strategies for support, receiving a diagnosis, and navigating systems such as school, health, social services, justice, etc. Our organization also provides opportunities for peer support through monthly meetings, online groups, and annual events.
The Network also focuses on providing FASD education to professionals and community members by hosting workshops and events across Saskatchewan and distributing printed resources.
Specialized Support Programs
The Network’s general Support Program provides support in any area of life for individuals with FASD and their caregivers. Part of this Support Program includes specialized services for navigating the Saskatchewan justice system such as advocacy, release planning, and access to community support. Another specialized service is our Intensive Support Service for families who are affected by FASD and have involvement with Child & Family Programs. This service aims to empower families by addressing the struggles caused by prenatal exposure to alcohol.
