We are thrilled to announce the launch of the latest version of the Moving Towards FASD-Informed Care In Substance Use Treatment guide.
This guide is an expansion of the foundational first version. The original guide outlines current practices to support individuals with FASD who are in treatment for substance use.
Additionally, this comprehensive resource packs valuable new information regarding FASD informed practice. It adds a focus on developmental considerations for youth with FASD to help you support individuals of all ages.
CanFASD understands the importance of providing tailored support to young individuals with FASD navigating substance use issues. Consequently, we have developed this guide to equip service providers with the tools and knowledge needed to make a positive impact in the lives of those they serve.
Throughout the document, we use a symbol to highlight youth-related guidance to make it easy to identify the sections you may be looking for.
Inside the guide you will see four broad recommended practices, each with specific elements:
- Understanding the Person with FASD
- Applying an FASD Lens to the Treatment Cycle
- Enhancing Program Practices to be FASD-Informed
- Enacting Person-First Program Philosophies
We believe that by equipping service providers with the right tools and knowledge about FASD, we can support positive outcomes. Understanding FASD as a disorder while simultaneously acknowledging the individuality of each person is the best way to be FASD-informed.
The Moving Towards FASD-Informed Care In Substance Use Treatment guide is available to download on our website. Please note that the French version of the guide is also coming soon!
