What Happened During FASD Month This Year

Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) is a lifelong disability that affects the brain and body of people prenatally exposed to alcohol. Although every person with FASD has both strengths and challenges, with early and effective supports they are more than likely to succeed in their daily lives.

With a prevalence as high as 4% of Canadians with FASD, September 9thhas been recognized as International FASD Day. Annually celebrated since 1999, this day is devoted to raising awareness and improving prevention efforts, diagnosis, and support for individuals with FASD.

International FASD Day is celebrated on the ninth day of the ninth month of the year to signify the importance of going alcohol-free during the full 9 months of pregnancy. People across the globe continue their celebrations throughout the month in honour of FASD Awareness Month.
