December is upon us and with it comes all the excitement of the holiday season. Although our celebrations may look a little different this year, it is important that we continue to support those who are choosing not to drink.
There is no safe time, no safe amount, and no safe type of alcohol to consume during pregnancy. The safest and healthiest option is to not drink at all; but abstaining from alcohol can be challenging for some.
Our 12 Days of Mocktails campaign raises awareness of Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) and encourages everyone to get involved in helping to support healthy pregnancies. From December 13th to December 24th we will be releasing a new mocktail recipe every day on our social media accounts. Mocktails are great alternatives to traditional alcoholic beverages, while still being fancy and festive. Share your favorite recipes with us using the hashtag #12DaysOfMocktails.
No matter what your holiday celebrations look like this year, simple actions that you take can help those choosing not to drink. Here are some ways that you can help to support healthy pregnancies this holiday season:
- Go alcohol-free with your pregnant friend, partner, or family member
- Organize virtual events that are alcohol-free to support those choosing not to drink
- Provide alcohol-free options if you are getting together with close friends or family members
- Give a gift or tasty treat that is alcohol-free
Wishing you all a safe and happy holiday season, from everyone at CanFASD!
