As we wrap up 2025, it’s the perfect time to reflect on the progress and impact CanFASD has made over the past year. From hosting webinars, to publishing research to launching a new fund, we’ve worked hard to bring important information about Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) to our community and beyond.
Let’s dive into the numbers that tell the story of CanFASD’s year!
1 national FASD conference
In October, more than 590 people joined us in Toronto for the Canada FASD Conference – an energizing gathering that strengthened collaboration and inspired action. Stay tuned for the next Canada FASD Conference happening in 2027 in Edmonton!
14 webinars
Knowledge-sharing continued through our well-established webinar series. In 2025, we hosted 14 webinars on topics such as education, alcohol policy, housing, and more.
- 8 public webinars open to everyone
- 6 member-only events offering deeper dives into current research and direct engagement with experts from CanFASD
Our member-only webinars provide a unique opportunity to connect with researchers and gain behind-the-scenes insights into ongoing projects. Interested? Become a member today.
1 parliamentary bill
2025 marked an important policy milestone with the re-introduction of Bill S-234, which advances a national framework to support individuals with FASD and their families. In November, the bill moved to the Standing Committee on Social Affairs, Science, and Technology, signalling meaningful progress toward coordinated national action.
1 new fund to support open access research
This year, we launched our Open-Access Research Fund to ensure our research is freely available to everyone. The fund covers publication fees so caregivers, healthcare professionals, policymakers, and individuals with FASD can access the latest findings without barriers. In 2026, we aim to publish as many open-access papers as possible – but we can’t do it without you. Please consider making a donation to accelerate discovery, inform policy and practice, and build a more informed community.
Too much research to count!
Our research team was very busy last year. Between our staff, Research Leads, and network partners, we published a lot of new research ranging from prevention to the legal system and everything in between. Here is a small selection of the papers published this year:
- Some Today, More Tomorrow: A Pilot Study on Delay Discounting in Adolescents with FASD
- An updated systematic review of the literature on fetal alcohol spectrum disorder and the criminal legal system
- Sexuality in Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder: A Topical Review Primer for Clinicians and Researchers
Looking ahead to 2026
As we close out 2025, we’re energized by what’s ahead. With new initiatives, research, and opportunities on the horizon, 2026 promises to be another exciting year for CanFASD!
