FASSY celebrates 25 years of service

This month, the Fetal Alcohol Syndrome Society Yukon (FASSY) is celebrating 25 years of service to people with FASD in the Yukon.

FASSY started from many conversations over a kitchen table. In February of 1996 it incorporated as a separate society. Since then, they have provided much-need supports to people with FASD living in the Yukon. Their supports and services include:

FASSY has been involved in some incredible initiatives over the past few years. They are an important partner in the FASD Action Plan, addressing issues of concern for Yukoners about FASD. They are also active partners with the “Safe at Home” action plan that is working to address homelessness within the Yukon. Funding from Kids Brain Health Network (KBHN), the federal Reaching Home program, and the Government of Yukon has also enabled them to create a partnership within the Community of Watson Lake to bring systems navigation to people who would like support.

As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic there was no public event but FASSY celebrated internally with balloons and cupcakes. “We are celebrating quietly but we are extremely proud of our accomplishments,” says Wenda Bradley, Executive Director.

They would like to recognize all those who have helped them to achieve this significant milestone. “We have so many people to thank for this support over the years, starting with the people who use our service, their families and support groups, so many other allied non-profits and service providers, and of course, the various governments and individuals who fund us to provide this support,” says Bradley.

Despite all they’ve accomplished, FASSY recognizes that there is still a great deal of work ahead to support positive outcomes for all individuals and families and their community. You can help to support their work by volunteering or donating.
